We research games

The Ludic Lab Lucerne is an interdisciplinary group of game researchers from the School of Information Technology and the School of Art and Design at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

We are creating games and playful experiences by ourselves or in collaboration with partners. This informs our own practice and allows us to understand how games are made.

Our focus lies on game design as a discipline and how we can support the game design process, both from a theoretical as well as a practical point of view. Our work ranges from physical playing cards for ideation to easy-to-use authoring tools for non-developers and all the way to procedural tools and AI support for e.g. dynamic sound generation.

We investigate how game design affects the player experience across different forms of games and play – be they physical, digital or taking place in a mixed reality.

Games are not only a source of entertainment, but they also have the potential to impact our lives in other meaningful ways as evidenced by serious games and gamification.

Do not hesitate to contact us if you have a concrete idea in mind or want to discuss how games and play could positively affect your project.
